Ingredients:
1/2 cup Lukewarm water
1 tsp. Sugar
2 pkg. Dry Yeast
Dissolve yeast, sugar in warm water in a small bowl, set aside
1 cup Scalded Milk
1/3 cup Margarine
1/3 cup Sugar
2 1/2 tsp Salt
1 tbl Grated Fresh Lemon Rind
Add ingredients to hot milk in a large mixing bowl and cool until lukewarm
2 eggs
5 1/2 cups Flour
Directions:
Beat in eggs and add flour. Knead on a floured surface for 10 minutes. Place in a bowl covered with a warm wet towel and let rise until double in bulk (about one hour). Knead again for 10 minutes, cut in two sections and roll out each section 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
Spread with butter, brown sugar to cover and sprinkle with cinnamon and chopped nuts. Pecans are best but walnuts are fine too.
Roll up tightly. |
Slice in 1 inch sections (be careful not to cut all the way through) arrange.
Let rise and bake in a 350 degree oven until golden brown. Let cool to lukewarm and spread with a glaze made with a tsp. of butter, confectioners sugar and milk or orange juice. Decorate with maraschino cherries.
